At Coneyhill Studio we offer four different yoga teachers with varying styles. Their class styles are described below, please view their profiles on the practitioner page and the class timetable on the schedule page.
hatha yoga
Hatha Yoga is taught by Gillian Lester, Tracy MacFarlane and Fiona Campbell.
Yoga as a whole practise has many different paths; Hatha Yoga specifically refers to the physical postures or exercises. A class described as Hatha will more than likely be a slower paced routine. Hatha yoga is a blend of asana (postures and stretching), pranayama (breathwork), relaxation and meditation. The purpose of these exercises is to become progressively more comfortable in a seated position. It is one of the many paths of Yoga that yogis believe will lead to a meditative state.
yoga for runners
Yoga for Runners is taught by Gillian Lester.
Aimed at developing stamina, endurance and flexibility and to help stay injury-free. Suitable for anyone, no previous experience necessary and you don’t have to have run a marathon to benefit from it!
yoga for all
Yoga for All is taught by Gillian Lester.
A blend of asana (postures and stretching), pranayama (breathwork) and relaxation. This class suits all, especially those who are looking for a wind-down at the end of the day.
ashtanga vinyasa yoga
Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is taught by Tiina Haapiainen and Tracy MacFarlane.
The most physically challenging form of yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, is a flowing sequence of dynamic postures threaded together on the breath. The practice is designed to cleanse and purify the physical body and nervous system. Regular practice realigns the spine, detoxifies the body, and builds strength, flexibility and stamina.
The first or primary series of Ashtanga yoga is called Yoga Chikitsa, which means yoga therapy. The series of poses begins with sun salutations and moves on to standing poses, seated poses, inversions and backbends before relaxation.
vinyasa flow yoga
Vinyasa flow yoga is taught by Tracy MacFarlane.
Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic system of yoga that connects each yoga posture with the breath - it's like meditation in motion! This system increases heat in the body, which helps one move into a deeper stretch, releases toxins, increases blood flow, and stimulates metabolic activity. Each Class will include pranayama (breathing), yogic postures (asanas), some yogic philosophy, and exercises to help focus the mind. There will also be a strong focus on core strength. It is a challenging class, but options will be given for all levels of practice. Don't be discouraged to give it a try, even if you've never done yoga before!
pregnancy yoga
Pregnancy yoga is taught by Tracy MacFarlane.
Enjoy your pregnancy! This class includes yoga postures, pranayama (breathing exercises), and visualizations to help one get through pregnancy with minimal discomfort, as well as prepare both physically and mentally for the demands of labour. Classes are designed to ensure that you stretch the muscles required for an easier delivery and will help you maintain your strength for the big day! You will learn about positions and movements that will guide baby into the ideal position for birth, which will assist with the process of labour. Women will be guided to get in touch with their natural birthing instinct.
